Best way to get your foot in the door with many music magazines is to contact the editors and offer to write reviews - have some reviews of your own that you can show them what you're capable of. Many music magazines no longer pay writers for reviews but it's a great way to establish a relationship with an editor and will open the door for you to pitch stories and interviews.
